Watercolors by The Painting Group at Redwood Curtain Theatre
The Painting Group consists of five friends who have painted together for more than 20 years. Individual participants in the group are Jaffa Duggan, Kitch Eitzen, Marla West, Ann Anderson, Maisa Kald and Jane Cinnamond. The women gather at each other’s houses every other week to paint together, critique each other’s work and share the process of creating art. The show at Redwood Curtain is primarily florals which reflects that several of the women are gardeners.
Formal training for each artist in the group varies. On one hand, all have taken classes, while on the other hand, two worked professionally as art teachers either at the collegiate level before retiring. All of the women enjoy the experience of spending time and working together. According to Redwood Curtain gallery manager Jessica McKnight, “I’m excited to share this work in our gallery. The artist’s styles are so different, and yet there’s a cohesion to the work as well. I think it’s reflective of the many years spent painting together.”
The Redwood Curtain theatre and gallery are located at 220 1st Street, Eureka. The Painting Group’s work will be on display in the gallery through the upcoming theatrical production of Going to St. Ives, which plays October 29 to November 21.
